Haiti needs our help

The earthquake which shook Haiti on January 12 was the worst since 200 years. The earthquake measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, and ensuing after-shakes caused huge amounts of damage to buildings and infrastructure. Thousands are dead and countless wounded are in need of medical assistance. International aid is slowly reaching Haiti and the international YMCA/YWCA have also started to collect money for aid.

Coordinator of the LACA (YMCA Latin American and Carribean Alliance) is the Dominican Republic’s YMCA general secretary, Andrés Fortunato. As a direct neighbour of Haiti, he has established contact to Haiti’s YMCA, found out what is needed and is at present coordinating aid. He is working closely with Red Cross representatives, local authorities and other aid organisations. His team purchases the relief supplies and sees to it that they reach the suffering as soon as possible

The YMCA-World Alliance and the World YWCA in Geneva have started respective calls for aid. Find more information at www.ymca.int and www.worldywca.org.

Horyzon has promised CHF 5'000.- from its own emergency aid fund. We ask you to support Horyzon’s aid venture and help to get emergency aid to the people suffering in Haiti as soon as possible.

Sponsored runs 2009

981 runners took part in the six Swiss races. The participants ran or rode for two hours to support the Horyzon-projects in Palestine, Colombia, Bangladesh and Armenia. The impressive amount of CHF 174,791.- was raised! We wish to thank all of those who may or may not have suffered muscle pain, but who all did something for a better world.
