The 20th YMCA World Council was held in Aarhus, Denmark, from July 3-9 with the theme "ignite change". 1,200 people from over 70 national YMCA organizations participated in this mega-event, while as many more joined online from around the world. Indeed, many ideas and plans for the future of the worldwide YMCA movement were ignited in Aarhus:
The main act was the adoption of the Vision 2030 of the worldwide YMCA movement. With the four pillars 1) Community Well-Being, 2) Meaningful Work, 3) Sustainable Planet and 4) A Just World, the course was set for the direction of the work of all 120 YMCAs worldwide for the next 8 years.
In addition, a new president and other high-level committees were elected during the World Council. World-renowned speakers such as former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Noon also spoke about the role of youth in addressing the current global challenges.
