International Day of Peace

The UN General Assembly decided to declare 21 September as International Day of Peace. On this day peace shall prevail within a country and among the different peoples of the earth. It is supposed to be a day of worldwide non-violence and a truce.

This year's theme is "Together for peace: respect, security and dignity for all". It promotes the cohesion of "TOGETHER", a global initiative of the UN that demands respect, security and dignity for all those forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. "TOGETHER" brings together UN agencies, its 193 member states, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and individual citizens in a global partnership to promote diversity, non-discrimination and reception of refugees and migrants.

This year's International Day of Peace will focus on mobilising people around the world to support refugees and migrants. It is about bringing people together and reminding them of their common humanity.

Peace is also a major theme in our project in Colombia: the ELN guerrilla in Colombia is now also participating in the peace process. After the peace agreement between the government and the FARC, negotiations with the ELN are also progressing. You can find more information under News, on the start page.
