Visit to the Project in Haiti
At the beginning of the week Irène, Werner and Martin traveled from Horyzon to Haiti to visit the YWCA Haiti. There they met five leaders who have been participating in YWCA activities for seven or eight years.
Now they lead groups of up to 10 girls on six days per week and pass on their knowledge. In the "After School Program" at YWCA Haïti, for example, the girls learn what they don't get at school. They are informed about important issues such as sexual health or hygiene. The girls who come to the YWCA show the Horyzon staff where they live. The small houses usually consist of a room measuring 3x3 meters, in which 5 to 6 people live and share a single bed.
