International commitment to women's rights

The pandemic has brought it clearly to the surface: there is still a lack of recognition for women's work and their remuneration is still anything but fair. For this reason, the Women's Commission of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions is calling for a women's strike on June 14!

Throughout Switzerland, women (and men) are demonstrating today for equal pay, higher women's pensions and better childcare options.

AN INTERNATIONAL FIGHT

But inequality does not stop at the Swiss border. The systematic discrimination of women was also evident in Horyzon's program countries as a result of the pandemic. In Haiti, South Sudan, Colombia and Palestine, for example, cases of domestic and sexual violence rose sharply, and in South Sudan many young women did not return to school after the lockdown.

The fight against inequality is therefore more topical and international than ever! Thus, Ester Hipaingba and her health group of the Horyzon program "My Body, My Right, My Future" from Yambio (South Sudan) have also reflected on the situation of women and what we should all fight for with a poem.
